While the official launch is today, the Possible Futures Film Contest is already generating buzz. It’s awesome to see people getting excited to create and share the inspiring people, places, projects, and technologies that will carry us all into a positive future. In order to pull off a global film contest that’s open to everyone, we need to get the word out far and wide. Many thanks to those who have encouraged their communities to participate, including: Tina Winterlik in Vancouver, BC; Steve Last from Transition Town Worthing in the UK; Bridget Marsh at the big idea in New Zealand; Jake Fruia over at HDSLR Shooter; Arts on the Peninsula in Australia; and The Zeitgeist Movement online community.
Ryan and Mandy are a young couple with a passion for sustainable community and personal growth. In order to fully realize this passion, we decided to bicycle 6500 miles around the USA and visit 100 sustainable communities, to film people choosing to go as deeply as possible into this new way of life. After meeting over 20,000 people and interviewing over 600 of them, we were greatly inspired about a positive future happening now in the USA, and we want to share what we learned with the world. I produced this short video on the Guyana rainforest and the indigenous Amerindian people living there. It is important to educate the world about the beauty of people and place in the Amazon regions of South America. These ecosystems are threatened with destruction due to mining and deforestation. This is based on my visit to South America with my 14-yr old son and others committed to education and preservation of rainforest regions. If we lose the Amazon rainforest, this will displace tens of thousands of peaceful Indian people from their forest homes, force them into urban poverty within cities and destroy countless unique species dependent upon this ecosystem. Indeed, the entire world will suffer from the negative impacts as the Amazon forests are the lungs of our beloved Mother Earth.
