Announcing the Flip Camera Winners!
We got a great response to our Early Bird challenge, and we’re thrilled to announce the 5 randomly selected winners of the HD Flip cameras. Picking the winners also turned out to be a fun part of this week’s staff meeting.
The best part is that the winners (and the pool of participants we selected them from) reflect a global reach – exactly what we were hoping for when we launched this contest.
Here’s some more info about each of them, excerpted from their filmmaker profiles (want one?). Look for their films to go live on our website later this month.
Thanks again to our winners - and to everyone in our community who’s been getting the word out about the contest and making this global vision a reality. Keep it up!
Alfie Barker (UK)
“My name is Alfie Barker and I’m a young filmmaker based in Leeds, UK. I’ve recently won the National Young Filmmakers Award 2011 in the UK as well as the IAC Film and Video Institute Award 2011. The film put forward was ‘Witness,’ which was shown twice at Hyde Park Picture House along with ‘Height’ and is available on my YouTube and Vimeo profiles.”
Matt Brass (USA)
“This past summer I traveled to Uganda to gather media for an organization I am involved in. This was my first real attempt at film making and I was quite wrapped up in the logistics of the affair. As a result I had lost sight of what we were there for. This film captures the moment when circumstance refocused me. Enjoy.”
Nitin Das (India)
“Nitin is an Asia Society Fellow being one of 21 young leaders selected across Asia each year. He has also won a special award from the British Council for creative entrepreneurship in the social sector. Nitin has done an MBA specializing in marketing and operations. He was working as a brand manager for India’s largest selling news magazine before he quit to follow his passion of filmmaking. He runs an independent film production house that specializes in producing entertaining films with socially relevant themes. ”
Abhijit Ghosh (India)
“Abhijit was born in Durgapur, a small city in India in 1983. Due to the lack of good schools in Pandaveswar (India) where his father works in coal mine, Abhijit had to spend his childhood away from his parents in Durgapur. While doing his graduation in college he found interest in media/films. His interest in films led him to complete Post Graduate in Media Studies from University of Calcutta. Now he works with some renowned filmmakers as an audiovisual editor and associate director.”
Sharon Pannone (USA)
“Sharon Pannone is a transformational coach; Passion Test Facilitator; entrepreneur; rising inspirational speaker; and a trusted authority in her industry when it comes to manifesting and stepping into life on purpose. She has a passion for empowering others to step into their NOW and live their best lives by awakening the possibility in others.”
