Enter up to four films, one in each of our visionary categories

This film contest doesn’t break films down into conventional categories. We challenge filmmakers to enter their films into categories according to visionary futures for humanity, not simply genres or styles.

Resolution of conflict,
without war and oppression

In too many regions of the world, humankind is constantly facing issues wrapped in conflict. Cultural differences are often at the center, creating clashes, fostering hostilities that can unravel into something bigger than all of us (war). Conflict is evident in individual relationships, bullying, within our governments, reflecting how and where we are heading in the future.

Visioning a new framework

Daily, we examine the world around us and comment socially on incidents we see, read and hear about globally. When conflict rears its head, we wonder, we dream — if only the conflict would change into something kind, loving and full of acceptance, then all will be well. When we being to create a new framework of relieving aged oppressions towards one another, challenging tolerance and hatred, then we invite acceptance and, ultimately, peace.

Celebrating a new future

Hostile events in the world can be an opening for humanity to examine relationships and foster forgiveness and respect as a way to a peaceful end. As we truly engage in facing confrontation, contention, dissension, discord and friction, we can create transformation, we can restyle, rebuild, even eliminate struggle and incompatibility. We can begin to celebrate difference, peacefulness, international amity, goodwill and harmony.

What do we want as individuals, and what does the world want us to do collectively, to be together? In telling your story, you are making a commitment to re-examine our path to a positive future. Ask yourself, how might this bring about individual or collective peace, and what might that feel and look like?

A world of justice and human rights, free of discrimination and fear

A fair society might be one in which all members, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, wealth, status, appearance or ability, have equitable access to social, economic and political resources. Clearly this gulf between the living standards of the world’s wealthiest and poorest citizens is of great concern.

Present day perspectives

Visualize where social justice and human rights might prevail and where humankind is free of discrimination and fear. The potential to recognize that every human being has a unique worth and that all people are entitled to be treated with honor and respect may be a path to a balanced future. Respect is the cornerstone of justice. Injustice and unfairness can only flourish where respect for others is absent.

Active agents of change

In a new future, people could perceive themselves as active agents, rather than passive beneficiaries, becoming engaged in decision-making in social, economic, cultural and political life. It is essential that individuals have the right, freedom and capacity to take responsibility for their own destiny, as fully engaged members of their community.

Fairness and equity for all

Picture a world where everyone has equitable access to social, economic and political resources, without distinction of any kind. People have fair access to information, and communities are inclusive of diverse groups, valuing differences. Fair and equitable access extends to those of all ages, as well as future generations. Tell your story to the world, assisting to elevate the consciousness of positive solutions in the world.

Thriving relationship between humans and natural ecosystems

Scientists, and our own intuition, are telling us that human beings have had a huge impact on our environment, causing irreversible damage to our waterways, our land, our food sources, the wildlife, the quality of the air we breathe. One conclusion has consistently emerged, that human beings have disconnected their relationship with essential ecosystems, forgetting how interconnected we really are to the natural world.

Future generations

The Brundtland Commission of the United Nations wrote: “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” All beings on the Earth should thrive and flourish without a compromised timeline. What future can you envision that would enable this to come to be?

Visioning a new future

Imagine a future that has healthy ecosystems, where our water is pure, the oceans are bountiful. Where the air is clean to breathe, and the land produces food that is healthy to our bodies. Where animal species flourish and replenish, and biological diversity strengthens.

What is being accomplished now, what technology or innovation already exists, that if more people knew about and supported, would bring balanced solutions?

Expansion of consciousness, connection and community

Many global societies are placing increasing value on what it means to get ahead and become part of a thriving, successful society. Money, notoriety and personal acquisition of more and more stuff have become a world focus. Community, person-to-person relationships and family connectivity are rapidly dwindling, causing humankind to be distracted from core values. Too often we dismiss taking one another into consideration, which creates a disconnect to our spiritual core. As a result, we are not fulfilled as individuals or collectively in humanity.

A new view of achieving our dreams

The potential to be completely fulfilled and achieve our dreams is possible. Humankind has the capacity to deeply experience the meaning of life. We have, within our reach, the ability to reconnect to one another, to nature, to all that is. Many societies have believed that, by growing the economy, life will get better for everyone, that the world would become more equal. That is proving not to be the case, and there is less global equality than ever before.
