The Pachamama Alliance & FOUR YEARS. GO.

The Pachamama Alliance is a San Francisco, CA based non-profit organization, whose mission is to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

Origins in the Amazon

Our story has taken an unusual path. The organization was born in response to a request from the Achuar, an indigenous people deep in the Amazon region of Ecuador. The Achuar made the courageous decision to seek a partnership with people from the industrialized world who would work with them in protecting their rainforest home and their traditional way of life. John Perkins heard that call for partnership and approached Bill and Lynne Twist to bring a group of people to Ecuador to find out more. Out of this, The Pachamama Alliance was born. Today, we work with a number of indigenous groups throughout South America, in a rich partnership with them to preserve their lands and culture.

Working to shift a worldview

As important as working with them to preserve their territory, the Achuar made a bold request of us to do work in our part of the world, to “change the dream of the modern world.“ We took this request to heart and, in 2005, we launched the Awakening the Dreamer Initiative. The program’s goal is to wake participants up from the trance we in the modern world are living in, to identify the unexamined assumptions that create and maintain the trance, and begin to appreciate the extraordinary possibilities emerging at this time in history. Through participation in this program, people are encouraged to find their unique and powerful role as agents of change in creating a new future.

Spreading the message widely

In March, 2010 The Pachamama Alliance, launched FOUR YEARS. GO., a global communications and commitment campaign to inspire people to seize this moment in time and change humanity’s direction toward a sustainable, just and fulfilling place for all life. The campaign uses personal communication, social media and a rich web presence to inspire a movement of people who recognize the urgency, and the opportunity, of this time and stand for using the next four years, through 2014, to literally change the course of history.

The Embrey Family Foundation

The Embrey Family Foundation has provided generous funding to make The Possible Futures Film Contest a reality. The Embrey Family Foundation, based in Dallas, TX, champions the well-being and rights of all people by supporting programs that advance human rights, healthy communities, education and artistic creativity. They accomplish this by funding programs and collaborative initiatives that address systemic cultural issues, strive to abolish violence and poverty, and work to achieve gender and racial equality and economic sustainability.

Wieden + Kennedy

Wieden + Kennedy has provided invaluable promotional support, including creation of our introductory video and print materials. W+K is a full-service, creatively driven advertising agency based in Portland, Oregon with offices all around the world, including Amsterdam, London, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, São Paulo and Delhi.
