Tips on Voting for a Possible Future

Welcome to the voting phase of the Possible Futures Film Contest!

Voting is open to everyone, including filmmakers, and is as easy as these five steps:

  1. Register as a voter.
  2. Click the activation link in the email that is sent to you (check your spam folder if you don’t see the email after a minute or two).
  3. Sign in to vote.
  4. Browse films in Watch and Vote.
  5. Click the “Vote For This Film” button next to the films that inspire you most.

Once you register, you can vote for over 300 visionary films, and each of them has something valuable to contribute to our possible future.

So how do you choose?

Here are eight questions to keep in mind as you watch and vote. They’re adapted from the full judging criteria, which our judges will be using to select the Pachamama and Possible Futures Awards.

Originality

  • Does the theme of the story have a sense of originality and richness to it?
  • Did the piece take your breath away?

Artistic Merit

  • Does this film move you?
  • Does the film appeal to and touch you in ways that other films just don’t?

Content

  • Was this work informative, giving solutions, not simply complaints?

Overall Experience

  • Did the piece elicit an inspirational emotional response?
  • Would you watch this film again?
  • Would you share it with others?

Two key things to remember:

  • You can vote for each film only once, but you can vote for as many films as you like.
  • You can’t undo a vote once it has been cast, so make sure you’re certain when you click the red “Vote” button!

Voting Ends July 19th!

You’ve got three weeks to vote for your favorite films, share with others and inspire them to vote as well.

Have fun voting – we can’t wait to see your top picks!

    Should
ones abilities at manipulating social media be the criterion by which a
film contest entrant wins the competition, or should it be the quality
of the film itself?I ask this because I know of at least one entrant who is spamming his entire (and very large) social network with requests to vote for his film. He is using the social network to “stuff the ballot box”. I believe this leads, not to a true ” best” film winner, but to a winner decided on the basis of his ability to manipulate the social network.

    • Info

I have at least a dozen friends and family members who simply aren’t computer savvy or haven’t recieved the confirmation email, yet it says their email address is in use when they try again. The voting process is a complete failure and will not result in electing the best film but will reward the filmmaker with the youngest friends and widest social network. We will not be participating next year unless there is a change.
How many people are willing to give Thor email address to complete strangers, I know I wouldn’t…

        Their* rather…but Thor wouldn’t either!

While there may be film makers that try to “encourage” their friends and social media network to boost their ratings it is my understanding that the films are actually judged by a panel of “experts”. Still the concept of people making films about solutions to our worlds most pressing problems is, in my opinion, a great way to bring broader awareness to all of these issues.
Bottom line…..to me they are all winners by virtue of making the effort. Lets all use our social media networks to encourage folks to view these films regardless of who “wins” the contest.

Since the first round is a “Peoples’ Choice” we have used our social networks to alert friends and contacts about our entry into the competition. In fact, if you take a look at the Possible Futures FB page they actually encourage “tweets” etc. about individual entries and the competition as a whole. In addition, there are multiple “share” options placed prominently next to every entry. We have also used our blog and social networks to highlight the work of other filmmakers who have entered the competition, and to publicise the competition in general without any direct reference to our own entry - essentially encouraging people to look at all the entries before making their choice. I do not subscribe to the notion that there is any spamming or manipulation of social networks to “stuff the ballot box” - if you have a computer and an internet connection, it is a level playing field.

I want to vote for I Want To Be Me, but I can’t get it to play or give me the button to click on to vote. How do I vote for this if I cannot get it to come up? [email protected]

Hi Jane, it comes up for us. If you still have problems voting for it, let us know and we’ll vote on your behalf. Chris from Ridealist.Like
