About me:
Husband and wife team Shirley HAN Ying and Chris Gelken created Ridealist more than two years ago to produce short videos and photography to showcase the efforts of grassroots non-profits who otherwise would not have ready access to media.
Since 2009, we have produced more than a dozen short videos for NPOs in China, Hong Kong and Uganda.
Ridealist offers tailored content in English and Chinese on an entirely pro-bono, volunteer basis.
What excites you about the The Possible Futures Film Contest? What's the most provocative aspect for you?
PossibleFutures has created a platform where everyone from seasoned media professionals to non-profit volunteers with a handi-cam can compete on a level playing field. Story and content driven, rather than focussed technical perfection, PossibleFutures has made video storytelling accessible to all.
Where do you find inspiration? What (or who) gives you hope?
Our inspiration comes from the people we have been fortunate to meet along the way. The volunteers, and the individuals who work tirelessly with little or no reward for the benefit of others, the environment, or animals.
How have stories shaped your life? What story does the world need to tell to shape a just and sustainable life?
As broadcast journalists in our professional life, editorial policies and the way news programs are structured means we tend to focus on the negative. That is just the nature of the beast. Having the opportunity to work on positive, uplifting stories through Ridealist, renews our hope and confidence of a better future.
