About me:

Renier Mouthaan is an emerging filmmaker from The Netherlands. With his background in music documentary he is now more and more moving to fiction and music videos. He loves all the possibilities there are nowadays for indie filmmakers like himself. Every story can be told through film with often only a minimum of resources. Love for one another and social community are the main themes he likes to communicate with film.

What excites you about the The Possible Futures Film Contest? What's the most provocative aspect for you?

The moment I read about this contest I knew I wanted to make a film for it. I believe that the purpose of life lies at the crossroad of what's good for the world and your own passion. This contest is exactly at that point for me. I'm passionate about filmmaking and believe that it is important to use it for a greater good.

Where do you find inspiration? What (or who) gives you hope?

The little things we can do to make our house and our neighbourhood a better place are the ones that inspires me the most. In the end our world is build of millions of neighbourhoods and billions of houses. Each one of us has the power to make our house and neighbourhood a better place and therefore the world itself.

How have stories shaped your life? What story does the world need to tell to shape a just and sustainable life?

Stories speak to your emotions and emotions can lead to action. In my life confronting stories, positive stories and honest stories have made me think about situations a lot. They changed my life bit by bit. The world needs to keep telling these stories at all kind of occasions.
