The average earthworm cultivates 6 tonnes of soil in its life span. When we already have such an efficient system of cultivation, why do we move towards systems that destroy it? The mechanisation of agriculture and the intensive use of fertilisers have devastated the bio-mass of soil. This leaves farmers with little choice other than to continue with these non-sustainable methods.
